Postgres Startup and Permissions Error in PGadminIII

26 Sep 2012

Using a GUI is not always easy.

Wanting to get a visual representation of my Postgres database, I installed pgAdmin. As I attempted to get my database started, I simply double clicked on my database. As I entered the password for the postgres user and hit enter, I was shown this error...

Error connecting to the server: FATAL: role "postgres" does not exist

It turns out that the problem was that when I ran the initdb command, I ran it as the user angeleah. This means that I needed to open my properties panel, and change the username and password to the user angeleah with the proper password. Try again and BOOM, we're in.
